It’s been a while since I’ve posted reviews from Vanquish, so it’s about time I got back into it. Sadly, I don’t think I’m going to have time to go back and review all the jobs from all the events I’ve missed, but I shall endeavour to keep up in future.


LTS: Happy Christmas by agrajag

A festive Brioso demo-derby cum combat LTS, that sees a large Christmas Tree platform adorned with baubles and tinsel which conceal a limited assortment of weapons – Heavy revolvers, sniper rifles and grenades and a single sticky bomb pick-up on the tree’s star. It plays very fast paced, particularly in auto aim, where the one-shot kill and medium range weapons lock of the heavy revolver makes the relatively slow Brioso more of a hindrance, except as a way to speed around collecting weapons and ammo as the round starts. Would have been nice to play more rounds, as it was over so fast, though I can see it would be a bit more drawn out and tactical in FA.

Good fun Brickade demo derby on a small aerial platform, with a few boost strips and surrounded by wind turbine grinders which seem to be designed to destroy your vehicle, but often jettisons it out of the area allowing the player to suicide – perhaps if this part were more contained, then the incidental bumps with other players, might count as kills when the poor unfortunate soul blows up. 6 minute rounds could be shortened to five.

3 team parkour race to the top of a raised stunt track, where heavy weapons and jets await. The three climbs are identical, except one of them is ever so slightly higher and perhaps slightly slower. That being said, the ascent only takes about 2m 30s and so the 8 minute rounds are just too long. Shorter rounds will create a greater sense of urgency, particularly given those at the bottom can avoid being shot by those at the top quite easily and sometimes camping at the bottom can ensure a win.

A long distance Heavy Sniper battle, that is just my cup of tea. Teams spawn inside black bunkers constructed from building blocks, but so far away that all that can be seen is the tiny little spot that is their watermelon head, ready to burst open as a high powered round finds it’s target. Fast rounds, so the 5 minute length is perfect. Great first LTS from this creator.

KOBICrewLeadR rarely fails to satisfy with his well constructed and intricately planned Last Team Standings and this is no exception as two teams start either end of an elevated and elongated barge platform at Fort Zancudo. Each team starts with armoured Kurumas and sweeper shotguns, but can pick up assault shotgun, mini smg, ap pistol whilst assault rifles, combat pdw, sweeper shotguns and machine pistols can be found at sand forts spread out along the length of the platform with armour in the open spaces between. Ramps also allow for flanking to your opponents starting platform, but wanted levels are on, so you can expect to encounter AI military on the ground. A good fun match that encourages tactical gameplay and teamwork.

My own creation – a symmetrical temple complex with limited weapons pick-ups, but which increase in power the closer you get to the Inner Sanctum of the Temple. Feedback welcome.


DUP Toybox Wars by DuPzOr

A two team combat LTS that is reminiscent of Land of the Giants or Gulliver’s Travels, as players spawn either side of a giant’s toybox, with building blocks, toy cars and planes as cover and a few weapons strewn about. The weapons do seem a little under-powered and the cover is limited to just a few spots, but still a fun match, though the rounds should be shortened to 5 or 6 minutes, as it is very tricky to get across to the other side

A turtle slide grenade thrower LTS. One team is on an inclined platform armed with
grenades, sniper rifles, marksman rifles, compact grenade launchers and the other has to knock them off by turtle sliding across the platform. It seems somewhat weighted towards the grenade team, so perhaps worth changing the super cars for armoured Schafters and/or giving the platform team just one weapon.


Duckhunt Frogger Wayy by Model_One

Model_One returns to GTA to make use of the stunt props in LTSs – yay. Taking his original duckhunt theme and expanding it with the use of the stunt props to a much larger arena. The sniper team have a tank and can shoot the runners as they start in cars and have to jump around a series of jumps and through a tube to get to the actual duckhunt part. It isn’t clear what is expected, so it takes a couple of rounds to get used to what one is meant to do. The runner team have Biftas, which are horrendously underpowered for the first part of the gauntlet, meaning that half the team don’t even make it to the duckhunt part and just time out or suicide. The duckhunt itself is too far away, such that players only become visible just before they get to a part where they can run out of sight and get a bicycle to get to the end of the run quickly. Then when they get to a jet or helicopter it is unclear where the sniper team are and impossible to guess where they could be on their giant platform. Suggest reducing sniper platform, moving it closer to duck-run and changing cars for supers or sports.

An updated CS version of an earlier LTS, that sees 4 teams fighting through a maze and destroying barricades with pipe bombs to get to grenades and then RPGs, Compact Grenade Launchers and Grenade Launchers. Fun and chaotic though this is and while the addition of the pipe bombs and Compact GL improve the explosive experience, I prefer the original which lacks the extra playground, viewing and surrounding areas which seem to remove the tactical nature which the battles in the original developed and which made it so much fun.

A Heavy Pistol battle at the golf club with simple cover spread about that encourages tactical gameplay and teamwork. Vantages have been insufficiently obstructed (that pavillion balcony is still accessible) weapon pick-ups are limited and not really available to anyone but the 1st player in each team as the round launches. Good, simple fun though. Suggest more weapon pick-ups spread about plus more at spawn points.
