Raceday Wednesday February 03 2016 (RDW 77)

Excellent quality this week. All very nicely built and even though I had more than my fair share of DNF's I really enjoyed it. Relieved my race didn't let the side down too much with my first (re-build from PS3 technically) stunt race. Not the greatest build in the world probably (getting the flips onto the walls working proved difficult) but at least it wasn't a disaster. Particular credit to the other creators for (imho) plenty of superior builds with many adventurous ideas that still managed to be perfectly raceable.

My votes:
1) EXTREME-STUNTS HENNESSEY by MysticBroly
Fantastic creator and the flip rollercoaster thing is simply amazing. The rest of the route is basic, maybe a little long but the stunt is mindblowing.

2) A Shark Out Of Water #TSL by o_ManOfFire_o
I always like something different and this is certainly that. Well built with inventive stunts that worked consistently. One very minor improvement idea is there's a section when you go in a tunnel that has a option to go to the right or left, with the stunt being on the left. If you could direct people to the left earlier here and widen the entrance to the stunt / move the whole stunt slightly to the left it would really help as I and quite a few others had issues with this section. Gets my vote of inventiveness and build quality.

3) {=¥ BH_StuntDr3am #4 ¥=} by BH__TB.
I can't explain why I like it more than any other of the more complex stunt races but I just do. Relatively simple, lots of bridges (some of which seemed to be pointless) with a good flow.

4) Power Street Speedway by LancerEvoWRC. Contact in RDW rarely works out but luck was largely on my side in this one. Superbly created route with a large grid perfectly designed for contact racing. The short laps mean you soon learn the track quick too.

1)! JGR13 Double Spiral TSL by jager1381 - not very often to vote for my own job in 1st, but 1) this is the smoothest barge spiral ive ever seen so far which took a while to get right, 2) it works perfect with 30 players with no bricking 3) can use multiple classes which work in this race and 4)its a perfect example of a tsl that doesn't brick and has nice full speed obstacle free circuit. 5) works perfect in 1st person which even the worse spiral drivers can easily pass this stunt using 1st person mode.

2)Midnight Club V by atheistsw - 2nd goes to this pure race which gave me more of a 'need for speed' feel rather than midnight club (ive never really played midnight club) and loved it, would rather it was on non-contact but still had lots of fun with contact to get the previously mentioned games feel.

3)A Shark Out Of Water #TSL by ManOfFire - now for something different... a quality sea race gets my 3rd vote this week due to the uniqueness of the stunts, not many seashark races run as smooth as this 1 does, yeah ive played before but never gets boring everytime I play this 1, which I also won last night too giving me that extra bit of satisfaction

4)The Washing Machine by ajm_agrajag - sticking with my something different theme... for someone that didn't come to ps4 till late and be the 1st person to make something like this especially the props in the tunnel, ive got a race similar in construction in creator but never finished so know the pain and time it took to get barriers in right place. loved the route which fitted the pantos perfect, and glad was on 2 laps as 1st lap was learning, 2nd lap was flawless which I had best lap time overall, quality build.

overall the quality of all other races was superb again this week,

C20 RiDe oR Die 2 WaY by Cambo20 - played this before and close to 4th vote, good use of bikes and wallrides

!V! UNDERWATER NASCAR by VoloVinho - good use of under the map, but to me is just another nascar track

FL35 Steep Climbing by freakyleekspro - another quality track and stunt which just missed out on my vote but was just down to the final flip landing me funny in my Osiris on final wall every lap.

Power Street Speedway by LancerEvoWRC - another quality pure race which ive played before, would be good in contact with smaller group of people or at least contact racing approved players lol, nice use of barges to make your own corner.

MGW TSL Quick Wallrides by MGW-Skillz - another quality tsl which worked perfect for me even with a full lobby almost, just annoyed at the start having to respawn as I was inside the platform, could place starting grid anywhere in that race and didn't have to be on platform to start.

just a couple mentions that affected my votes...

${}$ Blínd Wãllrìdë by TheHalconian - was a nice idea, but I struggled and dnf'd this 1 due to the wall being too invisible and not being able to do the wall once properly, I failed the 1st lap and fell through cp, 2nd lap didn't even make the wall due to people finishing, think the race route could be shorter with more laps to give more chance of attempting the wall.

°H- The Sandy One by -HarmH - could do with losing the cp before the fruit stand chicane to slow you down before stunt, it makes hard to see which way you have to go through chicane, only other problem had was the exit from wallride which can throw you off end at funny angles, maybe add 1 more container straight with final container already there to save flipping you awkwardly

×Z× |#59|× Jümþiñg Wªll × by Zerva_Veqxz - entry ramp to wall could be adjusted to make a bit smoother, as I bumped onto wall every lap, and also the 1st wall could be a bit higher so your dropping down onto next wall slightly, I left 1st wall centre and was too low hitting next wall.

[3-Aquapark by Bonigtbvc - another quality build and route, my only moan is the final part with the chimney sticking through the platform, every lap I tried to avoid it and put me down in helipad forcing a respawn, also then the respawn puts you right behind it.

{=¥ BH_StuntDr3am #4 ¥=} by BH__TB - not much to say about this 1 as it run a lot smoother compared to 1st time I played but 1 rant is too many stunt cams, over using them ruins good races, also the small ramp coming back through tunnel can be touch and go with the lightpoles and surrounding street furniture mixed with rockstars dodgy dyunamics hitting normal ramps which can throw you off at stupid angles

°K24-Øldscho0L WALL #1° by Kaffeefilter_24 - another quality build wall ride, only niggle is the big platform at end of wallride, 1 of my pet hates is having wider props at end of wallrides that if your too high or too low can brick and stop you dead, you shouldn't be penalised for getting that far in a stunt.

EXTREME-STUNTS HENNESSEY by MysticBroly - another quality rollercoaster which almost works perfect every time, biggest problem is the entry to the stunt, its under the tunnel in the dark with props that don't render until you get close, would suggest changing 1st prop from start finish prop to red container as they render in game from so much further back, also does it really need such a long run up, I'm sure you could place cp closer so there aint a long run up if you fail meaning you don't lose so much time and places in the race.

(1) A Shark Out Of Water #TSL by o_ManOfFire_o

On lap one I was questioning the 'TSL' aspect of this and wondering if it was a bit ambitious, by the end of the race I was lauding it as one of the most original races I've ever played and celebrating a personal best lap time of 1:26! Brilliant concept terrifically executed, honestly I've never seen anything like this before which is why it get's my #1 vote this week and it works (largely) perfectly, once you get the route down the flow is awesome and I just love how it feels like you're skating on ice once you hit those blue barriers! A couple of slight improvements perhaps: The first left turn has a barge ramp that is, IMHO, unnecessary, on 2 of the 5 laps it spun me out awkwardly going over it and honestly I think it ruins the flow a little. Also, at the very end of the final, biggest wallride you come to almost a dead stop right at the end. I managed to end up in the water every time but it was touch and go for some laps as you really do lose momentum towards the end and I saw others getting completely 'beached' in that part. Perhaps shortening the end just slightly would help? Also, for agrajag 's suggestion, I actually tried to take this section from the left-hand side on one lap and screwed it up royally, it's much harder I feel as you have a much narrower field of vision so harder to line up properly. Personally I approached from the ride, hit the blue barrier for dummy-proofing and then soared up and over the jump to the banked section across the way and doing it this way worked perfectly EVERY time. 

(2) Midnight Club V by atheistsw

Very happy with how this one has been received after many multiples of revisions and pleased it works in contact as well! Definitely inspired by both rodo77 's 'Tearing It Up' and docmedpot 's 'Airport Roulette' and expanding the idea of using the airport lights to illuminate an endurance race, I always have fun racing this one as it's a track that combines fast straights and corners with some trickier technical sections as well and always offers some close and highly-competitive racing action!

(3) EXTREME-STUNTS HENNESSEY by MysticBroly

Another really impressive coaster from MysticBroly, this one has a fine race route around the stunt and the stunt itself was stunningly executed. However, I have to second jager1381 's complaints, on the first lap I completely missed the entrance as the shadows of the underpass and poorly-defined dummy-proofing made the point of entrance very hard to see, a red container would be better as dummy-proofing but also close off the left-hand side of the road at a point on approach as it's necessary to be on the right-hand side to be able to properly see the stunt entrance. Finally, move the checkpoint further forward as if you respawn you lose TONS of time because of the extremely unnecessary distance up the hill that you start. 

(4) Power Street Speedway by lancerevowrc

Awesome, compactly plotted street circuit suitable for contact racing, the custom corner near the beginning is so well made and smooth that it never feels jarring or out of place and is a brilliant example of outside-the-box thinking when it comes to pure race creation. I'm a big fan of the creator's other works and this is a fine testament to his creativity and expertise at his craft. Recommended!

Finally, an achievable spiral for a noob like myself! Haha, in fairness, the stunt is flawless and wide enough that it's possible to do this one without too much heartache, the rest of the route around flows nicely and is fine example of the sub-genre.

Obviously made more as a 'what if?' challenge that anything too serious, I didn't have much problem with the wallride itself and really enjoyed the reverse-'Through The Grapevine' race around the stunt itself, some of the best driving roads on the entire map so a nice enjoyable race challenge for more of a pure racer like myself.

Just missed out on my top 4 vote because of minor issues that made the transition section harder than necessary, but I really liked the colour scheme for the wallride itself that showed the creator had gone the extra mile to add something a bit special to the job and it was a thrill to nail it perfectly on lap 2!

Really enjoyed this one and it was great to see such outside-the-box thinking from our esteemed leader!   Loved the sections inside the subway tunnels although I did have big trouble on the final wallride on both laps as the first bit of dummy-proofing killed my speed so that I failed to properly launch onto the wallride and had to hit the checkpoint then respawn to get below losing me precious time in the process. 

FL35 Steep Climbing by freakyleek

Another one that just misses out on a top 4 vote, when it worked this was really rather good but on the final lap I came down the building and just bricked on something which flipped my car and lost me loads of time.  The build is quality though, it's just a shame you lose so much speed on the initial climb to the loop to start it all off, kinda kills some of the momentum of the race sadly. Wonder if there's a better location you can move the stunt to so that the track is shorter (maybe a TSL idea?)

Just about the length of wallride I can cope with before I start falling off. Nice to see a different location used for a race too. This side of the map seems underused. Maintained by place in the DNF crew on this one, but still got round once.

Not the biggest fan of pure races - the last racing game I actually deliberately bought being Midnight Club and this race did bring me back to racing in LA.
