When Rockstar first brought back the Verified series with a rebranded Community Series it received broad support (if with a slight cynical tinge) from the creator community. Finally, for the first time since 2016 GTA's creator community's jobs had a chance to get a chance to show off their skills to a wider audience who could appreciate the build quality and diversity that, simply put, Rockstar too often fails to live up to with their own mixed attempts. The Community Series had (today) released it's 14th(!) iteration of jobs meaning nearly 100 jobs have had their chance to shine. However it's not been without it's missteps with every moment of true excellence (such as ANGL Ruins Of Athena by NightAngelUK) having at least twice as many moments of meh-ness; creations that lack any defining spark of creativity or precision found in the very best the community had to offer. As irritating as this was for those involved in the creator community there's millions of jobs for Rockstar to wade through and the newer system continually searching and adding new jobs at least means some deserving creators will get the spotlight shone of them, even if we don't agree with every choice.
However today marks a new low in the community series with the addition of "' SNIPER Vs PANTO" by TBOWLOKO___; a creation that simply isn't possible with the base game (used as intended) while worse is made by a creator shunned by many within the creator community due to created jobs supporting far right causes. This is no longer a mere subjective annoyance about the quality of maps included but huge concerns on the fairness of the community series and the values of Rockstar & the community it purports to represent. Its frankly embarrassing to have the creator community associated with this particular creator.
For those unaware TBOWLOKO is banned from GCCC due to support for the far right with a job including the phrase "White Power" called (at the time) "!#TBL +France Aryenne+" with the the obvious implicit support of the Nazi Aryan Race ideology used a basis to commit The Holocaust with the only public "defence" being he wanted to antagonise people. The job was reported en masse at the time (early 2021) yet no action was taken by Rockstar at the time (as usual reporting issues felt like shouting into the void). Worse still "!#TBL +Meın Kamþf+" remains up to this day for anyone unsure if the Nazi support was real TBOW is happy to ease those concerns by slapping Hitler's autobiography title as a job name. Creator's expressing these views simply have no place being allowed to use online services of GTA, let alone showcased as shining examples of the community.
And then we get to the other big issue with the job; the Murcia (American flag coloured) props and modded props in the original job. These are not available to all creators and as such should not be showcased to the wider community as the creme de la creme of what the creator community can do as it's plainly unfair. Murcia props can currently be made through a awkward inconsistent glitch while modded props have always relied of job files from PC containing props not natively supported by Rockstar's creator being copied and shared around a exclusive set of creators in a underground creator scene. It's pretty laughable that in order to port the job to the community series the dev props in the original (such as the borring machine & blood spatter) were changed into blue barriers making the job objectively worse but the Murcia blocks were allowed to stay.
This mess is pretty typical of Rockstar's creator support; ultimately not listening to community feedback, needlessly holding back creator tools and ultimately not even understanding the creator community. The reporting of the job(s) at the time should have led to a ban of some sort, and while jobs with such explicit nods to Hitler's Mein Kampf are up it should undoubtedly mean the creator's ineligible to be showcased. The truth is of course the initial reports went into the ether, likely neither read or acted upon, while the Mein Kempf reference wasn't auto flagged so that's that. Rockstar simply don't pay enough attention; and that's one the biggest issues here. The whole issue with the Murcia and modded props is all the more frustrating given they've been in the game since 2016 creating a two tiered creator community that showcasing a job with them in was simply inevitable. Confusing and arbitrary restrictions is how the creator increasingly feels; we can't colour props Murcia even though that's clearly fully supported (and endorsed as OK?), can't have access to all Arena props in creator just some, still can't use special stunt props like boosts in combat creator, combat creator has 300 props while the rest have 200 on new gen, vehicle deathmatches still can't be created....argh I could go on all day!
At a surface level this particular job in this particular community series annoys me as the creator doesn't represent the creator community I know while the prop usage in the original job is unfair and blurs the lines (at best, clearly it's just plain unfair) on what's allowable & supported with the content creator. I think though my bigger irritation is Rockstar on failing to keep the online creator community as a safe space, having confusing double-standards on the use of "extra" props that in my opinion should be supported in the regular vanilla GTA creator but also failing to listen to feedback from the community in asking for additional props Rockstar seem to like too (hence the job getting showcased) but also in keeping the online community safe. There is so much that has improved recently with the GTA creator scene; the community series undoubtedly showcases jobs that (on average) are objectively better or at least more interesting than Rockstar's attempts giving acknowledgement both the original creator and enjoyment to a whole new audience, the new DM creator is mind-blowingly good while the drip-drip of new props is encouraging (if paled by comparison to the modded props we've all played with for years now).
The creator community isn't all doom and gloom and I don't want to appear as a ranter (as undoubted a rant as this is) who hates Rockstar; I just think they should do better than this! No one expects Rockstar to understand every nuance of every creator added to community series but previous reports and the current job name should have flagged something making this creator ineligible for showcase (at least), Murcia props should just be added to the creator at the very least while the huge array of modded props should at least be considered for adding to the vanilla creator given showcasing jobs that use them is plainly unfair to the vast majority of the creator community. So much has improved lately but missteps like this and the blue barrier debacle are a huge slap in the face to the creator community who, for free, keep the game fresh for a decent amount of the GTA population.
(I'd ask anyone reading to please report the Mein Kempf job, support for Hitler in 2023 is as sickening as it is baffling...although it's hard to be optimistic that reporting will do anything ugh)
