Next-gen release info
March 15th brings the second port of GTA online, this time to PS5 (& xBox Series S|X); promising graphical improvements (up to 4k resolution or 60 fps) and a more detailed experience with greater traffic variety, improved audio and making use of the Haptic feedback of PS5 DualSense (Newswire post). While these changes are welcome there's still uncertainty around what changes (if any) will specifically be for GTA's creators and with PS5 shortages still common worldwide a significant portion of the crew will be left on PS4 (From a quick poll around half!)
For this reason (among others) GCCC won't be launching a PS5 crew at the launch of PS5 GTA Online on March 15th. We feel cross-play will still be relatively common for the foreseeable future and don't want to force people to use 2 crew slots as they likely switch between PS4 Online and PS5 Online. Commissioners & event hosts will be encouraged to tag their crew messages with "[PS4]" or "[PS5]" to make it clear what platform of the game the event is taking place on.
What this will mean for PS4 users & cross-play
We expect cross-play to continue for PS5 users so they'll be able to play GTA Online PS4 or GTA Online PS5. After character transfer these will work as 2 separate entities so any changes you make to your character on PS4 won't transfer to PS5 and any changes from PS5 won't transfer to PS4. For this reason the vast majority of our current event hosts are planning on continuing to host events on PS4 for at least the first few months after launch.
What about the PS5 users?
We'll likely open our PS5 crew after a tipping point is reached where it's more common than not to play on PS5 only. Given the lack of killer features to encourage that permeant switch announced thus far we're expecting this to be months down the line, however this could all change very quickly if the creator receives significant improvements on PS5 (for instance). We'd recommend PS5 creators only update jobs to PS5 if they really need to, but preferably make a copy so those stuck on PS4 can still continue to play & enjoy your content (after all at least half your audience is still there).
Tips to get a PS5
Use to a stock alert app (e.g. Stock Informer UK) that automatically checks stock levels of stores and alerts you when something comes up (via a App, Discord, Telegram etc). Without an bot alert system is basically impossible to get lucky enough to find stock. If GTA Online is the only or main game you play I'd personally recommend avoiding overpriced consoles on eBay and other market sellers; play the long game and get the console at a reasonable price. Faster loading times, no freezing around the Casino area and the new update is tempting but don't make unnecessarily big financial outlays especially for relatively small improvements.

Disclaimer: We don't know anything much about PS5's GTA Online so plans could change entirely when it launches.
