Another fun night, the 'Elimination' round seemed to go down well and attracted some new faces to the event, was a lot of fun and definitely created a greater sense of urgency for ALL drivers in the race, ratcheting up the tension as the couter ticked ever closer to zero! Also we had a rather cool lowrider meet at Grove Street, although over the last few days we've probably already exhausted our lowrider appreciation such has been the frequency with which they've been on display! Nevertheless, VERY cool stuff! 

[PS4] Too Soon?! by some12hate

As ovals go, this was pretty damn cool, the angled loop felt like riding around the rings of Saturn or something! I got knocked off the edge on the first lap and spent the remainder of the race in the middle of the pack, never able to catch up to the leaders but never really in danger of elimination either so my race was largely an exercise in concentration, perhaps if I'd have turned slipstream on it would have made it a bit more exciting?

Prison Banger by jameznash

A classic 'RaceWars' favourite, this worked well with the 'destroy last place' caveat and became a race against time banger race! Lots of collisions and some dirty driving to be expected, each hairpin turn was approached with all fingers and toes crossed that you weren't violently rammed from behind. I turned customs 'OFF' to maintain balance and used the Sabre Turbo, which in hindsight lacked the requisite speed necessary for a decent finishing position.

Having tested this out in Insurgents on GTA mode previously, I decided to run this one with the titular vehicle instead and the result was... frustrating. The waves frequently killed the car and the rain caused it to spin and slide EVERYWHERE making the race a massive exercise in patience above all else. I was eliminated fairly early on after a couple of close calls but ultimately the waves were totally against me and ruined my racing flow. 

Chapparel Muscle Dodgems by owenoldskool

Another event favourite, I ramped the lap count up to 5 and let battle commence as muscle cars became weapons and obstacles on this ingeniously designed track layout that doubles back on itself for some head-on carnage! Using my trusty Dominator I managed to get out in front early on and spent the majority of the race in 2nd position, never able to catch the leader but also far enough ahead of 3rd to not worry (even after I tumbled painfully down a cliff at high-speed midway through the race!). Lots of collisions and bumper to bumper aggrevation was witnessed and this race worked brilliantly with the elimination parameters so by the time the leader had crossed the finish line only 6 competitors remained intact!

Santos Ring by thatguy11m

A new race to the event, this massive 9 mile track took in all the main roads of Vinewood and the Tongva Valleys and presented a really challenging driving experience. Run in non-contact with thew 'Sports' class, here it was about driving skill to survive and this resulted in a really interesting race with plenty of excitement. The track is well propped for the most part, although a right-hand turn by a fruitstand is somewhat obscured (particularly in the night, which was the time of day we ended up racing) as it is black in colour and creates a vague line through a tight corner. Perhaps a different prop would be better here, helping to better visualise the line through this tricky corner? After much effort I eventually checked out in 7th place and jimbob9699 ended up running away with the win!

Really great flow for this simple but quick circuit through the downtown area, almost all corners could be taken flat out and this created a really intense, high-speed match-up throughout. I was concerned about a couple of those flagpoles that have been used to cover lamp posts being somewhat unsighted in places but by and large this was a very well set up race.

Cactus Jack's by barfy86

Great custom bridge constructions carve a new and unique route for the short race for coupe's around the casino area. Really smooth and well propped throughout, my only slight complaint is the electrical box used to protect the pole to the right just after the exit of the early chicane, it can prove slightly off-putting on a speedy exit and I would have preferred a prop to be used that forced a slightly higher decrease in speed to successfully negotiate that chicane. Other than that though, this was great, LOVE the bridges, really original stuff! 

Aprilla Moto GP by atheistsw

My track, that was initially made for a Red Rum Moto GP event that got postponed. I was inspired by docmedpot 'Airport Roulette' to use the airport signs at night to light the way of this race around the Vespucci area. I apologise for the ambiguity of the interior tunnel CP's, I wanted to have you zig-zagging between the two lanes but unfortunately restricts the placement of props in tunnels, so perhaps I can now use the template options to get something inside? In any case, a few prop changes aside, I think this one played out pretty well! 

Deadwood Rebellion by AJ

One of the tougher rally courses I've played, this one combined some well-trodden dirt tracks with some makeshift off-road paths to create a challenging and rather technical muscle car rally. Kudos for the use of the wrecked buses to highlight unsighted corner apexes on undulating terrain, it really did a great job of ensuring the route was clear even when it went a little off-piste. Certainly one of the tougher races of it's kind i've played, despite my best efforts I had slipped out of the top 10 by the end.

The Racing Line-Moonbeam by Frezyys

Rather simple layout that nevertheless suited the chosen vehicle very well. The majority of the right-hand corners can be taken flat-out, so largely success in this one depends on the smoothness with which you take the final hairpin around to the backstraight. I managed to stay up in the front of the pack for the majority of the race and thanks to nailing my optimum breaking point for the hairpin early on I finished a respectable 4th place.

Strawberry Showdown by jcast39

I didn't realise until too late that this was set to 'GTA' mode for the use of the pit-lane but thankfully EVERYONE was on their best behaviour and no explosives or owned weapons were seen. This track was a really fast and simple layout for supercars around the central downtown area. jameznash remarked that he felt the pit-lane was actually a quicker route than the main route although I didn't try the pit-lane for myself. I personally didn't like how the first corner CP was obscured by an unnecessary cabin on the right making it a tough one to gauge properly, it took me a few laps before I could properly negotiate this corner without going too fast or too slow into it. As well as this CP 4 could do with being closer to the apex of the corner as it's a little wide and too easy to miss right now. I drove well and managed to finish 3rd although there were a few problems later on as the back markers started to bunch up close together making overtaking rather precarious and I both lost and gained a place on the final corner due to this! 

Virgo Mobile Solutions by ashtargalactic

A rally for stock Virgo's within the Quartz Quarry, this was really fun jaunt that promoted some close racing action. A couple of the uphill sections caused some crawling to occur and the first usage of the sideways barges to jump off lead me to go to the wrong side of the track on lap 1, but this flowed pretty damn well and was a interesting twist on the traditional Quartz rally route using a car not normally sampled in racing scenarios. It was a close run thing right up until the end, although I was a little miffed to finish 7th having slightly over-steered on the final hairpin turn. Speaking of which, on lap 1 it was a little confusing that the start/finish was on the right-hand fork, would recommend placing an arrow barrier or something similar on the left-hand side.

Galileo Rally-X by theicide

I opted to run this creative Rally-X track with 'Compacts' and felt it was a good choice, the Blista's and Rhapsody's were well-suited to the bumpy terrain although the Panto's took some tumbles and were only really suitable for advanced driver skills! I really loved the way the barges were used to create banked corners around some of the rougher hilly climbs and the track flowed brilliant throughout thanks to some top-notch propwork and clearly defined checkpointing. I was having a great battle with some12hate during the first 2 laps, Blista vs Rhapsody with little to separate us but then on lap 3 disaster struck as I made multiple errors and slipped down the pecking order, in the end crossing the line in a disappointing 7th place. A great little circuit and one of my favourites of the night for sure! 

Low N Slow by Lewis-R--

Sadly I was unable to enforce a 'lowriders only' rule, so this race became a mixed bag of Dominators vs lowriders meaning it was a rather unbalanced affair. The route was rather precarious with more than one narrow dash through an alleyway and I felt my Faction performed admirably even if it's braking ability left a little to be desired. The track could probably do with more props as right now it feels a little unpolished and there were a lot of poles flying about the place which can be even more unpredictable when you hit them with one of these new lowriders! 

BH_TB 'GP Flavour 2' by BH_TB

Something of a wildcard to end the night, this track had potential with its route but had some sizeable issues, notably the unnecessary jump (and stunt-cam!) early on that made approaching the first corner something of a nightmare. Also, I ran this in the day as lots of our races had been during the night and the lights were rather poorly positioned in places. Also, personally I'd have used more props for the section through the Vinewood Bowl carpark midway through the race. All that said, the route did offer some potential and with some clean-up should be a decent race, there are too many needless checkpoints close together in parts but the basic route is solid enough to warrant a revision.
