Raceday Wednesday March 02 2016 (RDW 81)

Here's my takings on tonight's jobs.

Spiral Crab Wall
Race begins with a double choice U turn which I liked as it gives drivers the freedom to take their most comfortable line. This follows to a small barge ramp on to a platform. The barge spiral is smooth and the transition is also. The on ramp works well and the crab slide and the flip is well worked. However without sounding harsh this seems like you've copied a lot of people with how popular this is. Nevertheless it's a great race. A further feature that I enjoy is repeating the spiral.

Crazy Monster Loop
A simple yet weirdly challenging loop barge thing. The track is questionable although I enjoyed the stunt. Firstly, driving centrally through the fruit stands on the start jump means you only just land on the road, slightly mis-aligning will result in becoming damaged or wedged. The propped corner has potential but forces me into an uncomfortable line and the props could have been used elsewhere, such as on the natural jump where it is really unreliable and most landings are poor. The stunt is smooth and works well. The track just needs some work.

Zephyr's Curse
Nice circuit that has some challenging aspects leading to the stunt. Playing on my own I was able to brick almost anywhere on the stunt. However I can overlook this as I appreciate the time and effort that was put in. The stunt is very large, confusing, and great fun when it worked.

Candyland
I'm dissatisfied that there is no candy. I don't get why it's a point to point either. The circuit is well balanced with corners and straights. The wall is smooth and is backed with the flip. The respawn should be in front of the fruit stands. The spiral is smooth but landing is awful. On my own it is very unreliable and even with the dummyproof there is difficultly landing and hitting the jump.

New 2021 Era TSL Wall
Not much to say about this really. The name is extravagant, the stunt is smooth, you hit it twice, it has a fast flow, the flippers work well, there's a good combination of stunts, you've used some original propping. Great race, look forward to your next.

Slide Spiral
Well constructed stunt that works well. The dummy proofing is extremely effective and is helpful. The barges are smooth. The tree helps to reach the optimal speed. The only downside to this in my opinion is the location. The slow speed to the area in general removes some of the flow in the race. Doesn't cause too much though.

Signified Street Drifting
Nicely routed pure race through unpopular locations. The concept is visible but there are some small issues. It should be defaulted to a lower class due to the fact that sports cars are too powerful, even though it then it despises the name. It should be on day time as it is very hard to see. This links to some unnecessary props which are a problem at night. With a few minor edits this race will be a great success!

Extreme Stunts Swanton
Smooth as silk coaster that works perfectly for a smaller lobby. The track is well laid out and the location is good. The flippers combine well with the dummy proofing for an enjoyable stunt and the mid-air flippers just win me over. These things should never be judged off of large lobbies. On my own this worked without a single issue. This was worth the time you put in.

Armadillo Underground
I enjoy these barge spirals very much. I also enjoy wall breaches. These two combined well to transform what would've otherwise been boring to a very enjoyable yet simple to do stunt race. I find the way that you found this rather amusing and appreciate the amount of rebuilds that you had to do. Everything that is around the stunt flows well and is well placed. No notable issues.

Super Speed TSL
Very simple race with a large spiral which is very easy. I suggest that you should place a dummy proofing off to the right after it as it is easy to fall off here. Maybe the finish prop? Then there is a fast flip on to a very simple barge wallride. This is smooth and directs well to the ground and corner. However I dislike the stunt cam and belive that the race would flow a lot better without it as a lot of racers are not fond of them.

Explosive Walls
A rare contact race in this event that definitely added variety. Set out to be a demo derby stunt race this was great fun. Apart from the large pile up at the start. The wallride has a nice variation to the regular on ramp and the wall is smooth. The explosives add a challenge to avoid them or risk yourself for a competitor. I enjoyed the landing cross section and added the fun all round.

Trainwrecked
Why not review myself it was here after all. A very originally built wallride with the side of a prop. The prop itself is unused and this was a cool new look. The stunt was simple and built at an old favourite of a location. Landing is a challenge if you exit too low with the high speed of which you are travelling. The wallride is very smooth but like all stunts is effected by large lobbies.

Drain Reversion
Finally, a purpose of the river. Well set out stunts throughout the area. The flippers on to each primary spiral are amazing yet unreliable for me. The secondary spirals both land near poles and CP12 is very misleading. The stunts themselves overshadow this heavily though.

No Limits
Very simple wallride race which is complex. All of the wallrides are smooth and flow well together but the dummys that I have to hit in order to reach the checkpoint are a nuisance as I have to veer downwards to hit them. However the flips that they provide work well and allow the race to flow.

MadMoneyBanks Race
This carnage off-road race gives us a choice of the Biftas agility, the Brawlers speed, or the Insurgents power. This brings out the tactical sides in us. I liked the design with how you repeat each way. One noteable thing is that cars like the Insurgent are best off cheating the first spiral to being with. However this was definitely in some ways a morale booster and some a raver. Great fun!

Under G Ride
This race shows off some originality with the expansion of the most used wallrides on the map. This is well set out to wallride a now seemingly new location. The set out is smooth and is very enjoyable. I also enjoy the 2x=1 format of hitting it twice per lap. The only suggestion is to alter the U turn to make it possible at once. It is very hard to make the corner and it is easy to crash.

Amazing coaster, worthy of winning.

2. Under G Ride
Whereas the wallride is simple, the originality wins it.

3. Trainwrecked
Potentially higher if it was in a different location, but again a very original race.

4. Spiral Crab Wall
Never seen one of these work in an Osiris, good job.

Great line-up like always. Good look to all creators.

Did the review having played so many of those rolly things and crab slides recently that I honestly over shadowed the combo within it due to the overload of sections that I have played recently. Never thought back to the fact that they had never been but together. The halves have become unoriginal quite quickly. Now that I think of it the race is better than what it originally felt now I'm aware of this. Might reconsider your place on my votes.

Quick re-run done on my own to give some of the races a second chance as many of them I was trying out for the first time and a few of them gave me problems. As always I have chosen my votes on a number of things such as checkpoint placement, route, difficulty of build, reliability of stunts, originality, stunt cameras, if the stunt can be cheated, prop placement, decription/advice of cars and general fun of playing. Sorry I don't have time to write all of my thoughts on every race.

My race was run in contact as my only other GTA race entered into RDW was trolled to disqualification but I think this race is best run in GTA mode and I will probably set the default setting to that. Not a race to be taken too seriously as the winner will no doubt need some luck as well as skill. Will not be for everyone but I wanted to create something I had never seen before. Good selection of races for the event all round, hard to pick 4.
