I wanted to give a cursory review of some of the jobs last night - they were all a lot of fun to play, and there were some that needed a little more love in the creator.
1. Vinewood Circuit #4 by o_ManOfFire_o : A great motorcycle track at the Kortz Center, with lots of variety - especially in terrain. The track takes advantage of the Kortz landscape without confining itself to just the Center itself.
Highlights: A clever use of barge props - the catches were well done and even if you didn't stick the landing, there was usually a way to get back ON the barge to continue racing quickly, sans respawn. The track made of sideways barges was especially awesome - they were smooth and challenging but not impossible. Overall a fun race that had everyone competing hard.
Lowlights: There are some blind corners that cause some problems. Specifically, there's a 90 degree left onto a sideways barge prop an if you follow the apex it sends you off to the right and stuck between a barge and a cement wall. Also, on the next corner/jump - I never seemed to land that (probably user error), but there could be a way to provide a barrier as signage to help you line up. Either way, both of these nit-picks could be easily cleaned up in the creator.
2. Suicide Squadron by agrajag : A fast-paced Hydra/Lazer air race, where buildings aren't the only thing you need to worry about, particularly if set on GTA.
Highlights: Great usage of checkpoints - they were challenging but not impossible, while also giving you those "oh ****" moments if you executed a tight turn wrong. For a lot of the race I was either inverted or in knife position and that made it a great fun.
Lowlights: None, honestly. We set the race to GTA in the event, and I regret that a bit - GTA made the job a perfect purge-like creation. As a race, we should have put it in Standard - a good meet-in-the-middle solution. You may want to consider putting in a couple checkpoints that dramatically increase your altitude - just to switch it up a bit.
3. Tunnel Visionary by leevaldo (SC): A split-checkpoint motorcycle race where speed may not be your friend and checkpoint decisions can help or hurt.
Highlights: A really, really, great motorcycle race - it was definitely built for motorbikes and it shows. Excellent use of stunt props in a fun area of the map - it was just the right mix of stunt and GP. The split-track works really well - it's defined clearly that you either take the GP or off-road and the "easy" GP way will cost you a couple of seconds in the long run, assuming your opponent nails the off-road course.
Lowlights: The end of the race needs work. The way it is now, you come down a stunt track and fling a u-turn and that's it. It seems a bit anti-climactic and it may be that you ran out of props - that happens. But I would encourage you to rethink the ending - at the minimum to make it more cohesive with the pace of the rest of the race.
4. Razor Pines II by Zorvaine : A challenging Duster flight through the Paleto Forest. If you're not careful, you'll find out why the pines are like razors.
Highlights: Difficult, but not impossible. Slow-moving, but not boring. A great mix of elevations and terrains, including some under-the-bridge action. This race somehow manages to make flying a Duster really fun.
Lowlights: Some complaints were made about respawns, but a debate ensued about this is a trade off for a less fun race. If the checkpoints aren't dangerous and low to the ground and surrounded by trees, then the race would be pointless. That being said, you might want to respawn at each checkpoint and make sure you can at least get out of it - there were some people who were stuck in a respawn trap.
5. Extreme Quads III by ShelbyGR : A difficult, and sometimes frustrating, parkour-style race on quad bikes, which makes excellent use of the terrain.
Highlights: Very challenging, particularly on a quad bike. But that is a double edged sword - see below. The parkour aspect of it is fantastic and no part of the race is the same as any other - it's unique in its execution. The pacing of the race is also done well - with a fast beginning, slow middle and then a medium-paced ending. The jump-to-jump sections are pretty awesome as well - and the bridges you made out of wood pallets - nice touch.
Lowlights: I didn't have the ability to turn customs on or off - the choice wasn't there. Everyone obliged the spirit of the race, however, and took a Blazer (that bastion of over-steer). If intended as a quad race, locking the class down could be something to look into. Also worth looking into is making a prop-updated version, not necessarily with stunt props, but varying the props currently used. There are some tricky re-spawns as well and a couple of blind turns - signage or barriers should alleviate that.
That's all I've got in me for now Great event yesterday with some stellar jobs. Good work, all around!
